Selfie (One in A Million)
2014 Installation, mixed media
Selfie (One in A Million) is an installation playing with the Fourth Wall concept. Of all fascinating stories about the history of mirrors that very much shaped the face of art and the notion of aesthetic representation, it is this peculiar image that Wikipedia has selected to crown the Wikipedia Mirror page. The iconic Mise-en-Abyme technique is flirting with the “indigenous ancient Greek pottery”, and the folklore narrative of handmade-straightforward-simplicity is posing in front of a faux golden mirror. In “real” exhibition space the Selfie stands aloof by the wall, turning its back to artifacts and viewers around it while reflecting them.
