The Miracle of the Black Leg and Other Stories

2013 Video Lecture, 19min 57sec

The video is my critical encounter with the legend of the Miracle of the Black Leg that Panos Sklavenitis sent to five fellow artists & theorists, asking for theoretical analyses and research input that would build up the project ‘The Moor’s leg’. ‘The Miracle of the Black Leg and Other Stories’ is my own research & reading of the legend, investigating its historical iconography and proposing a narrative that brings together the representation of the black body in early European art, the phantom limb phenomenon, the heroic and the decaying white body in Neoclassicism and Romanticism and the relation of early modernity to the cult of the morgue.
